Football Metaphors for Business

Are you ready for some Football?  Think of your professional business team this way…

  • Employee engagement rates are in the neighborhood of 30%.  What would you scream while watching your team if 8 of the 11 of the players on the field weren’t engaged?

  • The head coach needs offensive and defensive coordinators.  Yet none of them can go out on the field and perform as their players do.

  • Give Tom Brady to the Buffalo Bills and they will still stink.

  • Bringing your hockey stick to the game does not help.  Two sports played simultaneously on one field makes no sense.

  • “I don’t care.  Not my job.”  Drew Brees knows what everyone else on the field is doing.  He has to.

  • The wide receiver doesn’t receive anything on a running play.

  • Go on the field with a play in mind.  Tell the people on the field what the play is.  Everyone had better know their part.  If you call an audible, be sure everyone hears it.

  • Watch the tape on Monday and make adjustments for next week, not for Monday morning quarterbacking.

  • It doesn’t have to be pretty.  A “W” is a “W.”

Which is your favorite?  What would you add? Comment below.
